The Mokokchung Town Gorkha Baptist Church (MTGBC) organised a cleanliness drive covering a three-kilometre stretch in Mokokchung on October 2, with around 60 church members participating in the community initiative.
The drive, undertaken as part of the church’s activities leading up to its Golden Jubilee celebration in December 2027, focused on removing plastic and other waste from the roadside and surrounding areas along the stretch from the Public Ground to Tongdentsuyong Ward.
According to the church, participants collected 11 large bags of plastic bottles, five bags of multi-layered plastic (MLP) waste and another six to seven bags of other waste during the drive.
The church said the area was selected as it falls within the heart of the town and is among the areas where considerable plastic waste is generated.
The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) supported the initiative through transportation, waste disposal and site-visit assistance, the church said.
The cleanliness drive is part of MTGBC’s wider community-oriented activities ahead of its Golden Jubilee. The church said its next phase of community engagement will include a blood donation activity.
The church said the initiative was aimed at encouraging collective responsibility and greater awareness of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
