The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) has expressed deep appreciation for the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) for its initiative to install streetlights across all eighteen wards of the municipality using funds generated from parking fees.
In a statement, the MTLT said the move “resonates the underlying spirit of the Municipal Council towards a better Mokokchung Town” and highlighted that it was primarily aimed at enhancing safety, reducing thefts and accidents, and improving infrastructure.
“Judicious use of funds is the hallmark of an astute person; it is more so for an authority that can generate its own revenue and put it to good use for the general welfare of the public,” the statement noted. The MTLT added that the initiative reflects the “cohesiveness, cooperation, creativity, and camaraderie” within the Council.
The organization also welcomed the transparency in utilizing parking fee collections, stating that it reassures citizens that their tax contributions are being effectively used for public welfare.
Since its formation following the historic Nagaland Municipal election in 2024, the MMC, under Chairperson Imkongchuba Pongen, has demonstrated versatility and determination in managing civic affairs, the statement read. According to MTLT, the Council’s developmental works over the past two years have been impressive, but the most notable achievement is the “spirit of collective responsibility and obligation towards a more developed Mokokchung.”
The MTLT concluded by acknowledging the Council’s people-friendly programs and assured its “wholehearted support to the Municipal Council for a vibrant, peaceful, and progressive Mokokchung town.”
