The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT), also known as the Mokokchung Town Ao Youth Organization, has strongly condemned the abduction of two handymen from the ‘Living Water’ packaged drinking water business in Chumoukedima on October 10, 2024, and the subsequent extortion demand by a Naga political group.

In a statement, the MTLT expressed its solidarity with youth organizations from Diphupar and Chumoukedima, who have already voiced their outrage against the incident. The MTLT stated that the two abducted individuals are “bonafide Ao Naga citizens,” and that such acts of abduction with “apparent sinister designs cannot be tolerated at any cost.”

The MTLT acknowledged that “Dimapur/Chumukedima, as the commercial hub of Nagaland, remains an important part of Nagaland state,” and stated that despite the unresolved Indo-Naga political issue, “every Naga tribe has been coexisting harmoniously thus far.” The organization voiced concern over how the actions of certain “anti-social elements” are undermining the peaceful environment of society, particularly at a time when “Naga youths are slowly exploring different ways and means to earn an honest living.”

The MTLT said that abduction and extortion demands “greatly undermine even the noble Naga political issue” and pose a “grave danger to the peace and livelihood of innocent citizen.

MTLT also urged the concerned authority, particularly the law enforcing agencies, to be more vigilant and ensure that such incidents are thwarted before it occurs. MTLT also demanded the Police to expedite the case and nab the culprits at the earliest and expressed their readiness to support Naga youths in safeguarding the lives and properties of fellow citizens.
