The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) on Sunday condemned the disturbing incident involving two police personnel who harassed a minor child and subsequently threatened the parents on the evenings of July 25 and 26 in the heart of Mokokchung town. Further, the MTLT demanded that the concerned authority dispense justice at the earliest.

The youth organization said in a press release that it takes strong note of this incident as it involves two law enforcement personnel, who in an inebriated state, harassed a six-year-old child returning from tuition classes with her elder sister on the evening of July 25.

“What is more disturbing is the fact that the two erring personnel came back to the innocent child’s home and threatened the parents using physical force,” MTLT said, further adding that, whatever their intention or reason might be, their action is unjustified, condemnable, and totally unacceptable.

“On visiting the aggrieved family, the MTLT sadly noted that the young innocent child has developed a fear psychosis which could hamper her life in the long run. The MTLT wishes her a speedy recovery and assures that the Youth of Mokokchung Town will stand by her in the pursuit of justice,” the MTLT further said.

It also maintained that the MTLT will be closely monitoring the case and is ready to take any responsibility in ensuring that Mokokchung remains a peaceful society safe from any anti-social activities perpetuated by “state and non-state actors.”
