Mon, 23 February (MTNews): In response to numerous complaints regarding the underweight and safety of LPG cylinders, a collaborative meeting was convened on the 22 February 2024 at Mon Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) office chamber. The meeting was attended by representatives of MCCI, Ward Union, GBs Union, LGP Agency, and Mon Town Council (MTC) to address the pressing issue.

The meeting saw thorough deliberations resulting in concrete resolutions to ensure the quality and safety of LPG cylinders in the district. The key resolutions adopted at the meeting included installation of weight machines, mandatory weighing of cylinders, and joint inspection and enforcement.

It was resolved that the three prominent LPG agencies, namely M/S Manwing, M/S Yange, and M/S Yongnyak, shall install weight machines at their facilities. To guarantee the weight of LPG cylinders, it was mandated that cylinders must be weighed before or at the time of delivery. These steps are aimed at ensuring accurate measurements and preventing underweight cylinders from being circulated to consumers.

Further, it was resolved that a collaborative effort involving the combined District Administration, MCCI, Ward Union, GBs Union, LMCP, and Mon Town Council, alongside the concerned LGP Agencies, will weigh cylinders before unloading them into the godown. In the event of discovering underweight cylinders, such cylinders will be promptly returned or sent back. These resolutions aim to address the concerns raised by consumers and ensure that LPG cylinders in Mon District meet the prescribed standards for weight and safety.
