The newly elected municipal councils of Mokokchung, Kohima, and Dimapur were sworn in today, July 5, 2024, marking a significant moment in local governance. In Mokokchung Municipal Council, 18 elected members took their oath of office, while Kohima saw 19 members, including seven women, affirm their commitment to public service at the Capital Convention Centre. Dimapur Municipal Council welcomed 23 newly elected members in a ceremony held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall.

The oath-taking ceremonies were presided over by respective dignitaries. In Mokokchung, the Additional Deputy Commissioner and Administrator of MMC administered the oath.

In Kohima, Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant IAS administered the Oath of Affirmation to the newly elected KMC members. The ceremony was graced by dignitaries such as Minister Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Advisor Kropol Vitsu, and MLA Kevipodi Sophie.

Dimapur’s oath ceremony was administered by Deputy Commissioner Dr Tinojongshi Chang, NCS. Following the oath-taking, elections were held for key positions within the councils. Hukheto Yepthomi from NDPP secured the position of Chairperson for Dimapur Municipal Council, while Imlinaro Stephanie Ezung, also from NDPP, was elected as Deputy Chairperson. The event was attended by Advisor Moatoshi Longkumer, W Manpai Phom NCS, Administrator of DMC Dimapur, and other officials.
