Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) chairman Obed Quinker today inaugurated a Quality Stock Bee Multiplication Centre at N. Longidang village in Wokha district. In his address, Quinker stated that the centre was established in Longidang in recognition of the zeal and commitment shown by local para-apiarists.
He emphasized that this centre would serve as the epicenter for beekeeping development in Wokha district and acknowledged the support and vision of Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio for prioritizing beekeeping as a viable and sustainable livelihood sector. Quinker noted that this facility, the first of its kind in the district, has the potential to benefit not just the local community but the wider North Eastern region, ultimately becoming a center of excellence for beekeeping.
He encouraged beekeepers to remain dedicated, citing Renphamo Murry, a para-apiarist whose efforts were key to realizing the project. Sentiwapang Aier, Additional Secretary to Chief Minister and Team Leader of NBHM, said the centre’s establishment fulfilled a long-cherished dream of the Mission, providing a common training and resource hub. He also stressed the need for self-reliance and urged the community to move beyond government dependence toward economic upliftment through sustainable practices.
Er Khuvozoyi Vese, Deputy Team Leader, NBHM, gave a technical briefing on the facility’s specifications and explained the strategic selection of the location based on its suitability for beekeeping and accessibility. Nzanbemo K Lotha outlined the centre’s objectives, emphasizing its role in advancing beekeeping in the district and beyond.
Earlier, on June 26, a similar centre was inaugurated at Mima village. There too, Quinker expressed hope that the facility would positively impact the entire Kohima district. He noted that Kohima has been a priority area for beekeeping under NBHM due to its high potential and committed community.
