The Naga Mothers Association (NMA) has extended its best wishes to all candidates participating in the Urban Local Body (ULB) elections in Nagaland. In a press statement, the NMA encouraged voters to cast their votes with their conscience for trustworthy candidates who will make a difference in their towns and municipalities. The association also appealed for a clean and peaceful election, free from malpractices and vote-buying.

The NMA also highlighted the significant participation of women candidates, expressing happiness that “the long years of struggle by Naga women has ushered in so many women into the electoral fray and some who are fortunate to be elected unopposed.”

The association acknowledged the committed leaders of the Joint Action Committee on Women Reservation, formed in 2011, and honored the memory of their late colleagues, Mrs Temsusola Jamir, first president of Watsü Mungdang, and Mrs Kalesha Kath, former president of Rengma Mothers Association, who did not live to see this day.

The association also expressed gratitude to the People’s Union for Civil Liberties, India’s largest human rights organization, for continuing the municipal election matter in the Supreme Court till the end.
