Kohima, 23 March (MTNews): Leader of Naga People’s Front (NPF) MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu who initiated a discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address on Thursday brought up the Naga political issue pondering whether assurances made to resolve the issue were just to fool the public or were made in all seriousness.
Claiming that NPF party champions the Naga political issue, Nienu said that he had proof and evidence with facts and figures to substantiate his claims.
He further suggested that the new government must form a Joint Legislators’ Forum with all political parties as members to facilitate the Naga issue and pointed out that in a year’s time the Naga political issue can be wrapped up if there is political will.
He also stated it was high time for PM Modi, HM Amit Shah and all the 60 Legislators to be sincere and ‘walk the talk’.
Responding to Nienu’s claim, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio called the statement “unreasonable, unacceptable and disrespectful to all Nagas across generations’.
“The Naga political issue and the Naga political movement is not the private property or domain of any party, organization or individual but that every Naga citizen is a direct stakeholder in the Naga aspiration for genuine peace and honorable solution,” CM argued.
The CM further told the house that the contributions and sacrifices of past leaders and political parties must be acknowledged and not denied.
“Let us not make political rhetoric and play to galleries, but rather let us be practical, realistic and honest and work collectively,” Rio added.
He further went on to say that the house should send out the right message of oneness so that other sections also take our lead and forge unity’.
“To say that only one party is the champion and the owner will create mistrust, disunity and one will be ridiculed by the public,” he added.
