Tahamzam, July 29 (MTNews): The Naga Solidarity Walk organized by Global Naga Forum under the theme “One People, One Destiny” that started early morning on Thursday from Kohima culminated at Tahamzam (Senapati) on Friday after halting for the night at Maram. A Naga Solidarity Walk culminated with a valedictory program held at Mini Stadium, Senapati.
Prof. Rosemary Dzüvichu, Co-Convenor, Global Naga Forum addressing the valedictory function said that the Solidarity Walk was a unity walk for all Nagas, “a walk for a better future, together as one people in an undivided ancestral homeland” which today lies divided in two countries – 4 states in India and a province in Myanmar.
Vichütuolie Mere, Convenor, Naga Solidarity Walk declared the GNF statement. “We believe time has come, yet again, to insist on an immediate peaceful resolution of the Indo-Naga political problem, which must include a constitutional structure and timetable for recognition and implementation of the Peoplehood of the Nagas in a self-determined governance system in an undivided ancestral homeland comprising all the Naga territories,” the statement read.
“The Walk from Kohima to Tahamzan (Senapati) we just completed is a hopeful physical enactment of a journey toward Naga Unity across the artificial barriers and boundaries put in our way by the powers that be,” the statement further read.
About 5,000 participants from various locations converged at Senapati for the valedictory program. Guru Rewben Mashangva sang the theme song, “One People, One Destiny.” Solidarity messages from ENSA, All Naga Catholic Federation, Naga Christian Forum, Manipur, Tenyimi Women’s Organization, Dimapur, Rengma Naga People’s Council, Haflong, Assam, Naga Women’s Union, ANSAM, Naga Mothers’ Association, NSF and UNC were conveyed during the program.
