Naga Wrestling team to participate in 6th World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan

The Naga Wrestling team, led by Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) President Vivolie Kezo, departed for Kyrgyzstan on August 26 to participate in the 6th World Nomad Games, scheduled from August 29 to September 7 at Cholpon-Ata.

The contingent comprises male wrestlers Huluyi D Vadeo and Kuvenu Puro, and female wrestlers Vikehenuo Zumvü and Haizuyile Zeliang, along with officials, coaches and referees.

Naga Wrestling has been officially included as a demonstration sport at the Games. The Naga wrestlers will demonstrate the traditional style and compete in belt wrestling in their respective weight categories.

The NWA said its objective is to promote Naga Wrestling at the national and international levels. The sport was featured as a medal event at the 12th AITWPF National Championship in Goa in January 2026, which saw participation from 16 states.

The association said its inclusion at the World Nomad Games marks a significant step towards international recognition. It aims to have Naga Wrestling included as a medal event at the UWW World Wrestling Championship 2026 and the next World Nomad Games in 2028.

The NWA acknowledged the support of the Nagaland government and thanked Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, Minister Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Advisor Kudecho Khamo and social activist Pelekho-u Akho Nagi for financial contributions towards the team.
