Rs 69.26 crore project in Niuland expected to generate 12 million units annually

The 10 MW Hovukhu Solar Power Plant in Niuland district has been virtually commissioned, marking the completion of its two 5 MW phases, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said on Saturday.

Rio virtually commissioned the Phase-I and Phase-II of the solar power plant during the State’s 80th Independence Day celebration at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima.

Located at Hovukhu Village in Niuland district, the project covers an area of 50 acres and was constructed at a total cost of Rs 69.26 crore under the Special Assistance for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme and State Plan.

The first phase, with a capacity of 5 MW, commenced in April 2022, while the second 5 MW phase commenced in December 2023, bringing the plant’s total capacity to 10 MW.

The plant has a total generation capacity of 12 million units of electricity per annum, according to the State Government.

The project is under the Department of New & Renewable Energy.
