Mokokchung, August 29 (MTNews):In order to examine the Nagaland-Assam border issue, Chief Minister Rio has convened a meeting with the Select Committee Members and the Members of the Local Committee in the Border Districts namely Mon, Longleng, Mokokchung, Wokha, Tseminyu, Niuland, Dimapur and Peren on 1st September, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at Chief Minister’s Office, CMRC Kohima. All the Members of the Committee have been requested to attend the meeting.

It may be recalled that tensions along the border increased in June last year after Assam police allegedly attempted to establish camps near Vikuto village in the Mokokchung district bordering Mariani under the Tzürangkong range.

Following this, the two governments agreed to monitor the disputed border areas with unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and satellite imagery to maintain the status quo and de-escalate the border standoff at Dessoi Valley Reserved Forest and Tsurangkong Valley.

Later that month, after a comprehensive deliberation on the Nagaland-Assam border issue, members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) overwhelmingly endorsed a three-point resolution to resolve the long-pending border issue.

One of the three-point resolutions passed by the house stated that the boundary dispute with Assam should be resolved peacefully between the two state administrations outside of court. It then formed the ‘Select Committee’ of the house to investigate all aspects of the Assam-Nagaland border dispute.
