Kohima, 2 September (MTNews): The Nagaland Athletics Association has unveiled a new set of office bearers to serve a four-year term. In this lineup, Khrichutuo Tsita assumes the role of senior vice president, Wennyei Konyak as vice president, Dziesebeinuo Vizo as vice president, Mhonsao Ngullie as the honorable secretary, Neingulie Nakhro as treasurer, Purna Konyak as senior joint secretary, Asakho Joseph as joint secretary, and C Tongen Thai as joint secretary. Handling the technical communication, Bithungo Kikon serves as the convenor, assisted by members Rongsenmeren and Nekhoto Tunyi.
Vikeduo Linyu takes charge as the convenor of the media committee, with Asalie Peseyie as the co-convenor. Meanwhile, the development committee will be led by Ketoulhoukho V Keditsu as the convenor.
These appointments were announced by Nagaland Athletics (NA) President Abu Metha during a press conference held on Saturday, 2 September, at the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) office complex in Kohima. Metha emphasized that these selections were made in accordance with directives from AFI, where 90% of the office bearers have backgrounds as former sportspeople or retired players, including 30% who are women.
Metha also underscored the accomplishments and initiatives of NA. He revealed that they had organized state cross-country trials for the 56th National Cross Country Championships and conducted a national-level coaching camp in preparation for the 2022 event. Additionally, NA successfully hosted the 56th National Cross Country Championships and South Asian Cross Country Championships, marking Nagaland’s most significant sporting event to date. This success demonstrated Nagaland’s capability to host international events.
Furthermore, Metha announced plans to bring in professionals to train coaches and officials from various sporting disciplines, with the ultimate goal of nurturing talented athletes from the state.
