The Nagaland football team defeated the host team Assam 2-1 in the first match of the 78th Senior Men’s National Football Championship (Santosh Trophy 2024-25) Group E zonal qualifying round match in Assam. Nagaland scored two goals in the first half, with goals from S Ayenmongba and Nisede Peseyie in the 6th and 13th minutes, respectively. Despite a goal from Assam in the 57th minute by Dipu Mirdha, the Nagaland team managed to hold onto the lead until the final whistle, securing three points. Nisede was awarded the Man of the Match for his performance.

 

The team is led by Head Coach Roko Angami, an AFC B License coach and OSD DYRS, assisted by AFC C License holder Khwetelhi Thopi, Manager cum Goalkeeping Coach Vizovor Lezietsu, and Physio Zakielatuo Seletsu. Sanyem Konyak, the defender, is the captain of the Nagaland team for the Santosh Trophy.
