Workshop highlights opportunities for market access and logistics efficiency
The Directorate of Industries & Commerce, in collaboration with the National Logistics Data Services Limited (NLDSL), organised a state-level workshop on the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) at the Directorate office in Kohima on September 10.

In his inaugural address, Secretary of Industries & Commerce, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS, emphasised the importance of digital transformation and collaboration in public service delivery. He highlighted ULIP as a key initiative under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s PM GatiShakti mission, designed to strengthen logistics networks across India.
Ramnikant noted that Nagaland faces unique logistical challenges due to its terrain and remoteness, which hamper producers and manufacturers. He said ULIP, supported by IT and AI tools, would enable efficient market access, particularly for Naga organic produce, handloom, and handicrafts. The platform will allow farmers and entrepreneurs to connect directly with buyers, eliminating the role of middlemen. He further stated that connectivity through the East Asia Highway and India’s Act East Policy could position Nagaland as a gateway to neighbouring countries like Myanmar.
Director of Industries & Commerce, P Tokugha Sema, welcomed participants and thanked NLDSL for its support. He noted that Nagaland is the first state in the North East to implement ULIP. The platform will improve infrastructure utilisation, enhance inter-departmental coordination, support data-driven governance, and reduce inefficiencies in supply chains. Transparency and real-time data sharing, he said, would particularly benefit the transport of perishable goods and support the growth of the manufacturing sector.
Chief Operating Officer of NLDSL, Arvind Devaraj, presented an overview of ULIP, describing it as a platform that integrates data from various ministries to offer secure and transparent access to logistics information.
The workshop concluded with a technical session, followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NLDSL and the Government of Nagaland.
