Kohima, February 17 (MTNews): The farewell program of outgoing Governor of Nagaland, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi was held today at Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan.
An update from the Raj Bhavan said that Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, who was appointed as Governor of Nagaland on 17 September 2021, thanked the people of Nagaland for the respect, affection and support given to him during his stay. He greeted La. Ganesan, the new Governor of Nagaland, who he expressed confidence in, will lead the State through the roads of professionalism, independence and strength that the State requires for the good of the country and all Nagas. He acknowledged the Raj Bhavan officers and staff and stated that nothing could have been achieved without their active cooperation.
Recalling his decision to accept the additional post of Governor of Nagaland, Prof. Mukhi said that he was aware that he would be assuming an enormous responsibility, which consisted essentially in protecting and strengthening its institutional capital. It was, he said, a major task that started precisely by introducing transparency and efficiency that would protect the State’s autonomy.
Prof. Jagdish Mukhi stated that he has been inspired and energised by his interactions with citizens during his visits across the State, and that he received full cooperation, support and blessings from all sections of society. Stating that corruption is the enemy of development and good governance, he called for both the Government and the people to come together to achieve this national objective.
Prof. Mukhi exhorted all to continue strengthening the State to raise it to a higher level. He thanked the legislators, head of departments and all the staff, for the support shown to him during his tenure.
Commissioner, Nagaland, T. Mhabemo Yanthan, IAS speaking at the farewell program said that he had the honour to work closely with the Governor when he was the Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor and stated that Prof. Jagdish Mukhi during his tenure extensively toured the State, meeting and personally interacting with different sections of society. Yanthan said the outgoing Governor has been a big encouragement to every sector, particularly defence personnel manning the international border. He said that Prof. Mukhi has been a strong advocate of self-reliance in agriculture, women empowerment, youth entrepreneurship and connectivity.
Mhabemo lauded the Governor for promptly closing down the illegal check gates run by unauthorised elements immediately on assuming office, which he said has helped in reducing burdens faced by the business community.
Chief Secretary, J Alam, IAS speaking on behalf of the State Government stated that Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi’s tenure of about one and half years may look relatively small, but in terms of impact on many key aspects of governance of the State, it has been very significant. His wisdom, vast experience and knowledge of finance was instrumental in guiding the affairs of the State towards greater efficiency and effectiveness, Alam added.
The Chief Secretary credited the Governor for accelerating the pace of infrastructure projects such as the 4 lane Dimapur-Kohima road project that he said has immensely benefited from intense monitoring and regular review by the Governor. He further stated that the Governor showed deep concern for the people living in border areas during his tour to various districts of the State.
Later, the outgoing Governor was accorded the rashtriya salute by the Nagaland Police contingents at Assam Rifles Helipad, Kohima before his departure to Assam.
The First Lady, Prem Mukhi, former Chief Minister of Nagaland, SC Jamir, Chief Secretary, J Alam, IAS, senior government officials, officers and staff of Raj Bhavan and other dignitaries were among those who attended the program.
Earlier in the morning, the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Nephiu Rio and his wife called upon the Governor, Prof Jagdish Mukhi and his lady wife to bid them farewell at Raj Bhavan Kohima.
