The Nagaland government has directed the installation of a prepaid meter system in Dimapur, aiming to enhance electricity management and billing transparency in the district.

A directive issued by the Home Department (Letter No. GAB-1/MISC-03/2023/636 dated October 8, 2024) mandated the rollout of the prepaid meter system. This initiative received further backing when the State Cabinet approved the Nagaland Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) Rules in its meeting held on February 24, 2025.

Following this, the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur has been officially instructed to collaborate with the Police and Power Department to ensure the effective implementation of the prepaid meter policy in the district. The directive emphasizes that strict and appropriate action must be taken against any GBs opposing the installation.

Commissioner KS Anden Konyak, IAS, has ordered that all actions taken in this regard be reported promptly to the state administration.
