The Nagaland Cabinet, in its first meeting of the year held today at the Chief Minister’s Residential Complex, decided to oppose the Union Home Ministry’s decision to reimpose the Protected Area Regime (PAR) in the state. This was reported by Northeast Live.
According to the news outlet, the meeting focused on the Union Home Ministry’s recent decision to reintroduce the Protected Area Permit (PAP) in Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram. According to a senior cabinet member, the Nagaland government has resolved to formally write to the Union Home Ministry, urging it not to impose the PAR in the state. The cabinet cited Nagaland’s peaceful law and order situation and the absence of any significant influx of illegal immigrants as reasons for opposing the move.
In another significant decision, the cabinet entrusted the Eastern Nagaland Legislators Union with the responsibility of convening a meeting with the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO). The meeting will address the demand for the Frontier Nagaland Territory Authority and is expected to take place before the second tripartite talks scheduled for January 15.
The cabinet also announced plans to take up the Naga political issue in its next meeting, underscoring its continued focus on resolving long-standing Naga political issue.
