Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh IAS, stated that India is a diverse country with varied cultures and traditions that can be counted as the strength and beauty of the country. In this regard he went on to say that Nagaland can be considered as Mini-India because of the numerous tribal communities that coexist in Nagaland with diverse cultures and traditions, each community maintaining its own culture and tradition.

 

He said this while speaking as the special guest at the one-day tribal festival organized by the District Cultural Office, Mokokchung under the theme “Igniting cultural traditions” at District Cultural Office complex, Ungma, Mokokchung on Thursday.

 

 

The Deputy Commissioner also applauded the department for putting on such a lively festival and respecting culture and tradition, while also noting that performing arts are a significant asset to a community and that festivals like this are crucial in igniting the diverse cultural traditions.

 

In his welcome speech, Imyaba Ao, District Cultural Officer, Mokokchung stated that cultural festivals as such are an opportunity to foster social cohesiveness and that ethnic and cultural subjects are discussed, informing the community preserve their cultural and traditional aspects of society.

 

He said that inviting students to the event was done so that the younger generation would be educated and come to respect the culture and traditions, and preserve their distinct identity.

 

The festival highlighted a variety of traditional and indigenous performances, including folk songs, folklore, and presentations of indigenous games.

 

The cultural performances were presented by Associates for Performing Arts and Theatricals (APAT) Mokokchung; Aosungkum Cultrual Club, Mokokchung Village; Nentong Rogo, Soyim; Watemdong Cultural Club, Ungma village; N. I. Jamir Govt. Hr. Sec. School and Mayangnokcha Govt. Hr. Sec. School; Folk Tune (Alu Wadang Ken) by Imlinungchet and Akinaro, and presentation of folklore by Lendongrenla and Aokonang Jamir.
