Nagaland’s PHED, Cooperation, and State Election Minister Jacob Zhimomi today underscored the economic potential of land and the vital role of cooperatives in driving inclusive growth during the International Cooperative Day celebration at the Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) office in Kohima.
Addressing the gathering, Zhimomi stated that Nagaland’s abundant land resources, when harnessed collectively, could be transformed into economic capital. “Nagas are fortunate to have their own land,” he said, describing it as “a capital and a startup” that can empower local communities and fuel economic development.
Celebrated globally as COOPS Day, the event in Kohima brought together cooperative members, officials, and community leaders under the theme, “Cooperatives: Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World.”
Zhimomi praised cooperatives for their role in uplifting rural communities and promoting economic independence. “They are not just business structures but tools for social upliftment, economic independence and human dignity,” he said.
He acknowledged the reforms initiated by Union Minister Amit Shah, particularly in digitalizing and modernizing cooperatives. These efforts, Zhimomi noted, are enhancing efficiency and transparency, ensuring grassroots benefits.
The Minister also interacted with cooperative societies who shared success stories. Calling them “encouraging examples,” he said their initiatives are helping realize the goal of a developed, self-reliant India.
The celebration featured panel discussions, exhibitions, and cultural performances. Cooperatives from various sectors—agriculture, dairy, handicrafts, and women’s empowerment—showcased their achievements, highlighting the dynamic role of the movement across the state.
