Kohima, 6 October (MTNews): The Indian Catholic Youth Movement – North East (ICYM-NE), in collaboration with the Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement (NCYM), has launched a project aimed at reducing drug use among children and adolescents.

The project was officially launched on 6 October 2023 at the Crescent Hotel Conference Hall in Kohima under the slogan: “A Drug Free Northeast.” The launch event was presided over by Rupin Sharma, IPS, Director General of Police (DGP), Nagaland. In his speech, Sharma emphasized that the fight against drug abuse is a collective effort. He encouraged the Nagas to unite not only for negative practices but also for positive virtues.

Sharma stressed the importance of fostering good moral values and taking responsibility for addressing the problem of drug abuse and addiction to psychotropic substances. He stated, “Distorted mentality is nothing but a crime” and urged the community to abandon the idea of maintaining privacy for those struggling with addiction, emphasizing the need to offer them help and support in overcoming their challenges.

The gathering also heard from various speakers, including Magdalene Anal, President of ICYM NE; Sr. Wansuklyndog, Lady Animator at NERYC; and His Lordship, Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima.
