Nagaland marked the 15th National Voters’ Day (NVD) on January 25, 2025, with a State Level Programme at Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), Seithekema, under the theme “Nothing like voting, I vote for sure.” The event aimed to promote electoral participation and raise awareness about the significance of voting, especially among young voters.
Thavaseelan K, IAS, Principal Director of School Education, Nagaland, was the special guest of the event. In his address, he emphasized the crucial role of youth in strengthening India’s democracy. “The Lok Sabha elections are the foundation of our Constitution, and every single vote holds the power to influence the nation’s future,” he stated. He urged young voters to vote responsibly and set an example by encouraging their family members to participate in elections, fostering a culture of active citizenship.
Polan John, DC & DEO of Chümoukedima, highlighted the importance of recognizing the potential of young voters in shaping the nation’s democratic future. “We must encourage the youth to vote and empower them to take part in the electoral process,” he said.
The programme also underscored the importance of voter registration and making informed decisions at the ballot box. Vyasan R, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland, commended the initiative of hosting the event at Patkai Christian College, stating that it would engage the younger generation and encourage their participation in the electoral process. He further acknowledged the collaborative efforts of teachers, police personnel, and various stakeholders in ensuring a transparent and smooth election process.
The event featured a series of impactful speeches, including one from Dr. Rudowhelie Peseyie, Vice Principal of Patkai Christian College, who spoke on the importance of educating first-time voters. The message from the Chief Election Commissioner of India was delivered by Rajvi Kumar.
A special musical performance by Mr. Otto Yepthomi, winner of the online Solo Singing Contest, added a cultural touch to the event. First-time voters were felicitated, and the NVD pledge was administered to participants, emphasizing the commitment to strengthening democracy.
The celebration concluded with a presentation by the Electoral Literacy Club of Patkai Christian College, followed by a vote of thanks by Ailia Chang, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer. A group photograph with awardees and first-time voters marked the closing of the event, reinforcing the significance of active voter participation in shaping the future of the nation.
