Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy CM TR Zeliang campaigned for NPF candidate Kachui Timothy Zimik for the 2-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency at Raisung Ground, Maram Bazar, in Senapati district on Saturday.

While 15 Assembly constituencies of the Outer Constituency voted yesterday in the first phase, voting for the remaining 13 Assembly constituencies of Outer Manipur will be held in the second phase of polling on 26 April.
“We have come to show our solidarity with the NPF candidate Kachui Timothy Zimik and we are happy that BJP and NPP have given support. I hope he will win and speak for the people. There should be harmony and co-existence in Manipur… There are some problems but we will overcome them. All peace-lovers should vote for the appropriate candidate. I feel that Kachui Timothy Zimik will do justice to his constituency…” Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio told ANI.

While urging the people to support the NPF candidate, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said in his speech that the NPF party was brought to Manipur to strengthen the brotherhood of all Nagas, as reported by The Sangai Express.

“To solve the Naga political issue, Nagas must unite. No solution can be expected until people are united,” he was reported as saying.

“If people want a peaceful solution and to move ahead with progress and development,” Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang said, “they should make the decision to vote for the NPF in the elections.”

Addressing the gathering, NPF candidate Kachui Timothy Zimik stated that if elected, he would work to address the unemployment problems and other social issues facing the state.

Nagaland Ministers, MLAs, and NPF leaders attended the rally. President of NPF Manipur state and Minister, Awangbow Newmai, was also present at the rally.

Kachui Timothy Zimik is a retired Indian Revenue Service officer contesting the MP elections for the first time. NPF dropped its sitting Lok Sabha MP, Lorho S Pfoze, and fielded Kachui Timothy Zimik.

The BJP did not field a candidate for Outer Manipur and is extending support to Zimik.

The Congress has fielded former MLA of Ukhrul, Alfred K Arthur.

There are two independent candidates – Alyson Abonmei and S Kho John – in the battle for Outer Manipur.
