The Department of Higher Education, Nagaland, has completed the full and final disbursement of the Post-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students for the Academic Year 2024–2025, benefiting a total of 41,793 students across the state, a press statement from the Higher Education stated.
The Post-Matric Scholarship is a welfare initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, aimed at supporting eligible ST students whose family annual income does not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh for pursuing higher education from Class XI onwards.
In Nagaland, the scheme is implemented by the Department of Higher Education through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) in a fully digitized process. Student applications are verified at both the institutional and state levels before payments are made through the Aadhaar-Based Payment System (ABPS) to ensure transparency and efficiency.
According to the department, in the first phase of disbursement, a one-time full scholarship payment of Rs 3,071.49 lakh was released in June 2025 to 22,412 beneficiaries. After submitting the utilization certificate to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the Ministry sanctioned an additional Rs 2,309.91 lakh as its share on October 28, 2025 for the remaining beneficiaries.
Subsequently, the combined Central and State share of Rs 2,566.57 lakh was credited to the Single Nodal Agency (SNA) account on November 10, 2025, and the final disbursement was made the next day, November 11, to 19,381 students, marking the completion of all payments for the academic year.
The Department has informed that students listed under the second-phase beneficiaries who have not yet received their scholarships should ensure that their bank accounts are Aadhaar-linked and enabled for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The beneficiary list has been made available on the Directorate’s official website — https://highereducation. nagaland.gov.in.
It further clarified that the Post-Matric Scholarship is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (90:10), jointly funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, and the State Government of Nagaland. The State Government releases its share promptly upon receipt of the Central contribution, while the Department disburses scholarships only after funds are made available by the Ministry.
