Kohima, 18 February (MTNews): In response to the recent filing of a First Information Report (FIR) by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against an Additional Secretary from the Department of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland, and two other high-ranking officials involved in the Fostering Climate-Resilient Upland Farming System (FOCUS) project, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has issued a strong condemnation on Sunday.
Expressing shock at the unfolding bribery case involving more than Rupees two crore, the NPCC decried the rampant corruption within the state’s governance structures stating that it was “expected”. The NPCC highlighted the pervasive influence of corruption across all levels of governance, blaming the “morally bankrupt oppositionless government” for authoring and patronizing such practices.
The NPCC described the corruption scandal as “vulgar” and emphasized the urgent need for accountability and reform within the government. While acknowledging the intervention of law enforcement agencies, it stressed that this incident is just the tip of the iceberg, indicating a much larger systemic issue corroding the rights and well-being of Nagaland’s citizens.
According to the NPCC, “the rot is systemic, entrenched, and starts at the top, necessitating a troubleshooting exercise at a scale much more proportionate than the one under play now.”
The NPCC urged the authorities to take immediate action to rectify the situation, warning against the perpetuation of a culture of decadence and ineptitude that threatens to drag the state to a point of no return.
