Mokokchung, 6 March (MTNews): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has denounced what it called “seemingly unrelated but well-planned and concerted attack” on the Christian community in Assam in recent times by both state and non-state actors, terming it as “beyond alarming and deserves utmost condemnation from one and all.”

“While the survey undertaken by the Assam Police targeting the Catholic Church and the call for the removal of religious symbols and statues from Missionary Schools by the Hindutva organization ‘Kutumba Suraksha Parishad’ is ample indication of the malicious intent of the case in point, the subsequent passage of the Assam Healing Practices Bill 2024 by the BJP Government in Assam is a clear giveaway of the identity of the chief orchestrator behind the communally bigoted exercise,” the NPCC said in a press statement on Wednesday.

The NPCC stated that “the BJP’s central ideology of exclusionary majoritarianism and the fact that they are incapable of winning any election without causing and stoking communal enmity is on naked display once again.”

The NPCC drew attention to the tragic irony of this situation, unfolding shortly after the devastating violence witnessed in Manipur, allegedly orchestrated by the same political party.

“The travesty of the impending disaster being engineered in Assam today is rendered all the way more tragic considering that it comes close on the heels of the devastating inferno of violence authored by the same party in Manipur,” it said.

The NPCC went on to say that it strongly condemns “this discriminatory assault on the Minority Communities by the BJP government in Assam” and urged the Assam government to take urgent corrective action to restore the confidence of the wronged members of the minority communities, “lest the age old traditions of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence prevalent in the State and the region in general is jeopardized beyond redemption.”
