The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has voiced strong opposition to the proposed “Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra,” a rally aimed at promoting a ban on cow slaughter, which is scheduled to take place in Kohima on September 28, 2024. The NPCC condemned the event, describing it as part of a broader trend undermining India’s secular character.

In a statement from the NPCC communication cell, the NPCC emphasized its long-held belief that “the essence and strength of Indian democracy lies in its diversity and the mutual respect for one another’s way of life.”

However, the party expressed concern over the alarming rise in assaults against the foundational principle delicately holding together the very fabric of the Idea of India, authored by elements inimical to the Secular character of the Constitution under the tacit support of the State.

The NPCC asserted that food choice is a personal matter and a fundamental aspect of individual freedom and any attempts to impose one’s food preferences or beliefs on another in the State would be opposed tooth and nail.

“We reiterate our sworn commitment to respect and safeguard the rich and diverse culture, traditions and identities of all communities across the Nation,” it added.
