Dimapur, September 12 (MTNews): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) stated today that they are open to a secular alliance with all like-minded political parties of the State for the upcoming state assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur on September 12, NPCC president K Therie said that the electioneering in Nagaland began 6 months ahead of schedule, starting with the announcement of the seat-sharing deal between the BJP and NDPP, which he said was to distract the people from the demand for implementation of the Naga political solution.
He alleged that the Nagaland Legislative Assembly’s Core Committee on the Naga Political Issue holding back the July 16, 2022 resolution has been to suppress and delay solution in favour of election.Therie further stated that the Congress party has decentralized all powers and has given the authority to all Congress assembly constituencies and district committees to select their own candidate for the elections. “We are authorizing the ACCCs and the district level committees to select their candidates in their respective constituencies,” he said.
Interestingly, the Congress chief also declared that they are open to forging alliance with any like minded party, including the NDPP, for a non-BJP alliance government in the State. Therie also reiterated that it is painful to see the movement to divide Nagaland and questioned the Chief Minister for remaining silent of the ENPO demand for Frontier Nagaland state. “Why is CM silent on the demand for Frontier Nagaland for the last 11 years? Nagaland state has been bought with blood, with sweat. We have all strived together,” he said.
Therie also claimed that more than 40 intending candidates have so far shown interest to contest with the Congress ticket in the forthcoming assembly elections.
