Continuing their statewide tour, All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Incharge of Nagaland, Christopher Tilak, along with Lok Sabha MP and Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President, S Supongmeren Jamir, visited the District Congress Committee (DCC) in Mokokchung on Thursday, 20 February.

At the event, several former NDPP youth leaders, including ex-Mokokchung Municipal Council candidate from Sangtemla Ward, Alemtuba Imsong, former Vice President of the NDPP Youth Wing, Tiasunep, and Imsuwapang Jamir, former Youth President of the Sangtemla Unit, officially joined the Congress party.

Welcoming the new members, Tilak urged them to work for the welfare of the people of Nagaland under the secular ideals of the Indian National Congress. He emphasized the need for the Congress to adapt its messaging to connect with the youth and women, who play a significant role in today’s electoral politics.

Tilak also spoke about the party’s mission for 2028, calling for unity and outreach. “We must add value to our collective efforts, much like the pioneering spirit of Mokokchung’s people in Nagaland’s political and socio-economic journey,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, MP S Supongmeren Jamir highlighted the importance of the upcoming 2028 elections. He encouraged Congress leaders to assess their strengths and take on roles that best serve the public. Criticizing the central government’s decision to suspend the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border, Jamir termed it as the “painful rebalkanisation of the Naga Family”.

Khriedi Theünuo, Working President Incharge of Administration Zone ‘A’, NPCC, said that the visit was aimed to assess the party’s progress in the district. He expressed the party’s readiness to move from opposition to governance.

Highlighting Mokokchung’s historical role in accepting Christianity and education, he urged DCC Mokokchung to take the leading role in standing against the BJP’s majoritarian divisive agenda.

Ketseiyie Mere, President of DCC Kohima, and other NPCC leaders were also present at the event.
