The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has strongly refuted the recent claim made by BJP Nagaland President that “thousands of Congress workers and officials” from the 58 Shamator Assembly Constituency have joined the BJP. Calling the statement “exaggerated and baseless,” the NPCC asserted that such misleading claims from a high-profile BJP leader were “unacceptable.”
Citing a report from the District Congress Committee (DCC) Tuensang, the NPCC clarified that only 13 individuals had signed in support of joining the BJP. However, it pointed out that “only 11 were enrolled Congress members, while the remaining two were never registered Congress members.”
Among those who switched allegiance are retired IGP (IPS) Richard Yimkhuing and his wife Shojila Yimkhuing, along with S. Lakhang from Yakor Village; Khiungreto and Yakso from Huker Village; Mahila and Riola from Huker Village; Thrimhokiu, Wongji, and Chelu from Huker Village B; Richard Yimto from Rürrü Village; Shojila from Sangpur Village; and Yanshu from Shamator Village A. The two individuals who were never registered Congress members are Royim and S. Kioshu from Chessor Village.
Dismissing BJP Nagaland’s claim of a mass defection, NPCC stated, “It is evident that the numbers have been greatly exaggerated to mislead the public and create an illusion of mass support.” The party further urged BJP Nagaland to “uphold political integrity and refrain from spreading misinformation.”
