In a recent statement, former Congress President K Therie commented on MP Supongmeren Jamir’s stance, telling a local newspaper that there is no need for any Congressman to make demands regarding Kohima Airport. According to Therie, there is no proposal for Kohima Airport, and the proposed Chiethu Airport is the Chief Minister’s pet project in his constituency.

In response, the NPCC Communication Cell issued clarifications today. The NPCC pointed out that K Therie’s assertion lacked relevance, as MP Supongmeren Jamir never mentioned a specific site for the airport in his speech.

The NPCC emphasized that as an elected representative of the state, MP Jamir had risen above politics and made a bipartisan demand for the development of an airport in Kohima in the greater public interest. This demand aligns with the Government of India’s goal of achieving 100% air connectivity for all state capitals in the nation.

The NPCC argued that raising developmental issues of collective interest does not dilute the Naga Political Issue and that both matters can be addressed simultaneously. They further stated that MP Jamir’s statement on the Naga Political Issue, delivered within the time allotted to him by the leadership of the Indian National Congress and the Speaker of the House, clearly articulated the longstanding desires of the people of Nagaland for a final negotiated settlement between the Government of India and the Naga Political Groups.

“We concede that one single speech might not be enough to cover all our pressing issues, but it has clearly reaffirmed and set the tenor of the MP’s unwavering commitment in representing the Voice of the People of Nagaland in the coming days,” stated the NPCC.

The NPCC also urged their leader K Therie to refrain from confusing the public on the official stance of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee on important issues like the Naga Political Peace Process and other developmental issues of public interest.
