The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Saturday raised concerns over what it described as forces undermining the Constitution through policies that conflict with the interests of citizens.

Speaking at the launch of the Congress membership drive, NPCC working president C Apok Jamir stated, “As far as secularism is concerned, the very existence of our way of life and belief is threatened by some of the policies which have been propagated for almost 14 years.”
He asserted that Congress remains the only viable party capable of safeguarding the Constitution and protecting people’s interests. “To ensure better understanding, unity, and progress, it is the duty of every citizen of the state to take a stand when confronted with the onslaught of a government that is going against the very principles of the Constitution,” he said.
Jamir, a former Rajya Sabha MP, emphasized that the membership drive is not about numbers but a movement to awaken citizens to the challenges ahead. “We need the collective involvement of every citizen to challenge all forms of oppression and atrocities against our people and work collectively to bring change,” he added.
Touching upon social harmony, he remarked, “Hinduism is a very tolerant religion that propagates love and peace, but a section of people is trying to divide and create hatred in society.”
Jamir stressed the role of people’s power in shaping policies and governance. He pointed to Nagaland’s recent parliamentary elections as an example, stating, “The people of Nagaland have shown it by electing a representative who truly stands for the people.” He further highlighted that NPCC president and Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir is working tirelessly for the state’s welfare.
The Congress announced that the membership drive for Dimapur district will continue until March 22, after which it will be extended to other districts. (With PTI inputs)
