Nagaland delegation attends 55th IFFI

A 10-member team from Nagaland, nominated by the Department of Information and Public Relations, Nagaland, participated in the 9-day film festival at Panaji in Goa from November 20th to 28th. The team included Vileno Tase, Athe Rhi, Nungshitemjen Jamir, Vikepe Yhokha, Lonehol Kin, Ravinder Chetri, I Baso Chang, Arienba Jamir, Jepito H Zhimomi, and Tiakumzuk Pongener.

A special session with the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Sanjay Jaju, was held on November 23rd at Kala Academy, Panjim, Goa, during the ongoing 55th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). A total of 274 student delegates and young filmmakers attended the session.

In his address on the festival theme, ‘Creative Minds of Tomorrow,’ Jaju spoke about the potential of young filmmakers. He emphasized that while we learn from the legacy of the past, we must also pass on those lessons to the younger generation. He encouraged the student delegates to sharpen their skills, refine their craft, and aim to showcase their work on bigger platforms to make a positive impact for themselves, their families, and the nation.
He also highlighted the importance of reaching out to the underserved and commended the ministry’s initiatives to focus on the Northeast region with plans for the future.

The musical documentary, “Headhunting to Beatboxing,” which explores the sonic heritage and cultural traditions of Nagaland, directed by Rohit Gupta and produced by AR Rahman, was featured at the IFFI 2024 Gala Premieres on November 27.

IFFI is the only film festival in South Asia accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers’ Associations (FIAPF) among the 44 international festivals in the Competitive Feature Films Category. Since its inception in 1952, IFFI has been curating spectacular films from all over the world. Its goal is to provide a single platform for ambitious filmmakers, cineastes, and industry professionals to access excellent cinema from across the globe.

Since 2004, IFFI has been held annually at its permanent venue in Goa, where it is jointly organized by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, and the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), Government of Goa. The theme for this year’s edition is ‘Young Filmmakers – The Future is Now.’
