The Directorate of Health &  Family Welfare (DHFW), Nagaland has issued a clarification regarding the enforcement of its earlier notification prohibiting food products containing tobacco and/or nicotine as ingredients.

The clarification has been issued pursuant to Notification No. DHFW-21/FSSA/3/2023-24/261-74 dated June 2, 2026, to remove ambiguity in the interpretation and implementation of the directive concerning the prohibition of sale, manufacture, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, distribution, and sale of such products.

According to the department, the effective date of implementation and enforcement has been fixed from June 2, 2026 to June 1, 2027, for a period of one year.

“The prohibition extends to food products containing tobacco and/or nicotine as ingredients,” the clarification stated.

It further stated that Food Safety Officials shall ensure implementation of the prohibition within their respective jurisdictions in coordination with the District Administration and Police.
