200 candidates clear scrutiny

 

Mokokchung, February 8 (MTNews): Following the scrutiny of the nominations, the Election Commission report from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer said that there are altogether 200 candidates qualified to contest the Nagaland Assembly Election 2023.

 

Only the nomination paper for Dr Amos Longkumer (RJD) was rejected during the scrutiny stage due to missing documents. Except for the standby candidates, all candidates were validated, and no candidates withdrew their nominations.

 

Mokokchung has a total of 26 candidates. The deadline for withdrawing any nominations is February 10.

 

 

Election Observers for Mokokchung District arrives

 

Mokokchung, February 8 (MTNews): The Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Mokokchung Shashank Pratap Singh IAS has informed all concerned that Election Observers appointed in various capacities by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the smooth conduct of the General Election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Election 2023 in Mokokchung District have arrived and are stationed at GA rest house Mokokchung.

 

Any political representative/ Election agents who have queries/complaints have been asked to approach the observers on the mobile numbers as mentioned below or in person at Room No. 001, GA Rest House between 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

DC & DEO Mokokchung issues orders for polling officers

 

Mokokchung, February 8 (MTNews): The Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS has informed the presiding officers and polling officers to duly perform their assigned election duty for the conduct of the General Election to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

 

The DC and DEO have informed the officials so appointed that they are deemed to be on deputation to the Election Commission of India and shall be subject to the control, superintendence, and discipline of the Election Commission.

 

It was further stated that Section 26 of the Representative of People Act, 1951 empowers the DEO to impose all obligations of such office irrespective of their consent, at the peril of persecution under Section 134 of the Representative of People Act, 1951.

 

“This principle equally applies to any case of refusal to attend training classes, as it is part of the obligation of such appointment as polling personnel,” the order said.
The training is scheduled to be held on February 10 and 11 at Mayangnokcha GHSS.

 

The order stated that all Heads of Offices/ Nodal Officers of various departments shall depute all drafted officials under their respective establishments to attend the training positively.

 

It informed that any failure to attend such training or perform such duties shall be liable to prosecution under appropriate sections of election laws.

 

 

Postal ballot for senior citizens in Mokokchung

 

Mokokchung, February 8 (MTNews): The Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Mokokchung Shashank Pratap Singh IAS has informed all concerned that the tentatively scheduled dates to facilitate voting of postal ballot by absentee voters in the category of Senior Citizens, PwDs and COVID-19 suspect or affected persons will be as follows: February 21, 2023 at the address of AVSC/AVPD/AVCO applicants for 1st visit and February 22 for 2nd visit from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

 

 

DC Mokokchung informs postal ballot applicants

 

Mokokchung, February 8 (MTNews): The Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Mokokchung Shashank Pratap Singh IAS has informed all concerned who have applied Form 12 for the postal ballot that the tentative scheduled dates and venue for the casting of votes will be as follows:

 

2nd NAP personnel on February 20 at 2nd NAP Camp, Alichen;

DEF, Home Guard, Fire Service; NPTO personnel on February 21 at Town Hall, Mokokchung.

 

The DC/DEO staff, Sector officers, EEM Teams, Drivers will be scheduled on February 22 at Town Hall, Mokokchung;

 

13th IR Yajang personnel on February 22 at 13th IR Camp Yajang and Polling Personnel on February 23 at Town Hall, Mokokchung.

 

The timing for the casting of votes on the mentioned dates will be from 9:00 A.M to 4:00 PM.

 

 

Enforcement Agencies seizes items worth more than Rs 31 crore

 

Kohima, February 8 (MTNews): The monetary value of the progressive seizure made by various Enforcement Agencies both Central and State from the date of announcement till February 7 is Rs.31,03,03,137.

 

As per a Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland press release, the seized items consisted of cash worth Rs. 1.6 crore; IMLF (40925.65 Litres) worth Rs. 42.21 crore; Drugs/Narcotics (3.06 Kgs) worth Rs. 23.32 crore and Freebies/other items worth Rs. 1.86 crore.

 

The seizures made on February 7 included cash Rs.60,000; liquor 491.08 liters worth Rs. 4,21,076, 0.0125 kg of brown sugar; 6909 nos of SP capsule and 210 nos of cough syrup worth Rs. 15,51,273, freebies and other items worth Rs.20,32,349 totaling monetary value of Rs. 20,32,349.

 

 

CP Dimapur seals gun shops, air gun shops, arms repairing shops

 

Dimapur, February 8 (MTNews): In view of the forthcoming General Election to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly Election 2023, the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur has sealed sixteen gun shops, five air gun shops, and four arms repairing shops with effect from 7th February 2023 until the completion of the election process.
