The Nagaland girls U-17 team beat Air Force School 2-0 at the ongoing 63rd edition of the U-17 Subroto Cup 2024 at Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi, today. The Nagaland team is represented by Government High School Mereima, led by N Bijim Konyak, and the team manager is William Koso.
During the match, Xangyoa Konyak scored the first goal in the 21st minute, while an own goal by Air Force in the second half helped Nagaland register their first win in the tournament.
With this win, Nagaland has four points and a match remaining against Sainik School on August 8. The Nagaland team secured a goalless draw against Home Mission School 1 Mizo BN NCC Aizawl in their first match.
It may be mentioned that only the group winners will qualify for the knockout stages. The Nagaland team is in Pool-G with NCC, Sainik School, and Air Force School. While Air Force School defeated Sainik School 19-0 in the second match, Nagaland will need to beat Sainik School by a better margin to progress to the next round.
