As football fever grips Mokokchung, Jubilee Memorial School (JMS) has declared a holiday on Monday, July 20, allowing students to stay up and watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 final between Argentina and Spain.
Announcing the decision, Principal Jongshijiba Ozukum said the holiday was intended to encourage students to experience one of the world’s biggest sporting spectacles while learning the values that football represents.
“Football is more than a game. It teaches teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship,” the notice stated. “To encourage our students to appreciate the spirit of sports and witness one of the world’s greatest sporting events, Jubilee Memorial School will remain closed on Monday, 20th July 2026, on account of the FIFA World Cup Final.”
The school added that it hopes the occasion will inspire students “to dream big, play fair, and celebrate the values that unite people across the world.”
The decision comes as football fans across India prepare for the midnight showdown, with several state governments, including Kerala, Manipur and Meghalaya, also announcing holidays for educational institutions.
JMS, affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi, is the only school in Mokokchung currently in session, as NBSE-affiliated schools are already observing their summer vacation.
