The Finance Department has issued important guidelines for processing claims under the Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme (CMLIS), aimed at providing comprehensive financial support to families affected by the loss or injury of the breadwinner. These guidelines are designed to streamline the claims process and ensure timely assistance to beneficiaries.

Claims for life insurance are eligible only for the breadwinner, who must be registered in the CMLIS portal. “Claims must be reported within 3 weeks of the death to the Facilitation Cell, Finance Department via call or WhatsApp at 9366494507,” the department noted. Detailed instructions are available on the official website: cmlis.gov.in.

Regarding accidental insurance, an accident is defined as a sudden, unforeseen event caused by external forces, including road accidents, natural calamities, drowning, criminal acts, and murder. However, death by suicide is excluded. A complete list of exclusions can be found on the CMLIS website. Claims for accidental death or disability must also be reported within 3 weeks from the accident date. It is required that incidents be reported to the police and properly documented. A post-mortem report is mandatory for death claims, with an inquest report needed where a post-mortem is not feasible.

Both life and accidental insurance cover the breadwinner, and claims can be processed independently. The registration for the CMLIS scheme is open to every Indigenous Inhabitant of Nagaland. “Every claimant must adhere to the outlined guidelines to ensure the timely processing of claims without rejection by the Insurance Provider,” the Finance Department emphasized.
