Mokokchung, September 3 (MTNews): Nagaland Gandhi Ashram, Chuchuyimlang was conferred with the 25th Bhagwan Mahaveer Award for Community and Social Service. Dr Aotoshi, Managing Trustee received the award comprising Rs 10 lakh and citation from Governor of Rajasthan, Kalraj Mishra, at MITS, Jodhpur.

Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation was established by N Sugalchand Jain in 1994 to identify, encourage and honour the individuals and institutions who are doing selfless service for the welfare of the underprivileged and the weak in society. “With a view to focus public attention on the activities of these altruistic persons and encourage others to emulate them and take up community and social services, the Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation has instituted the Mahaveer Awards which is given every year,” the foundation states on its official website.

 

The awards are given for excellence in human endeavour in the fields of Non-Violence & Vegetarianism, Education, Medicine, and Community & Social Service. The awards carry a cash component of Rs.10 Lakhs each with a memento and a citation.

 

The 25th Bhagwan Mahaveer Award was awarded to People for Animals, Sirohi, Rajasthan in the Non-Violence & Vegetarianism category; Sathyanarayanan Mundayoor, Arunachal Pradesh in the Education category; Vivekananda Mission Ashram Netra Niramay Niketan, West Bengal in the Medicine category; and Nagaland Gandhi Ashram in the Community & Social Service category.
