A delegation from the Nagaland Gorkha Association (NGA), led by its president Nobin Pradhan, met Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton on March 28 to discuss the cut-off year disparity for the Gorkha community in Nagaland.

The NGA pointed out that while the cut-off year for other non-Naga communities in the state is 1963, for the Gorkhas, it remains 1940, a distinction they called “discriminatory.” The association urged the government to rectify this and bring the Gorkha community on par with other non-Naga tribal communities.

In a statement, the NGA said, “Patton was very patient and sympathetic towards the Gorkha community on this matter,” the report stated.

The Deputy CM assured the NGA that he would advise the Chief Secretary to take up the matter in the state cabinet for discussion. He further encouraged the delegation to meet other cabinet ministers to garner support for the issue.
