The Government of Nagaland has issued a work order worth Rs 6.94 crore for the construction of a new Market Complex-cum-Urban Local Body (ULB) office at Mokokchung, under SASCI 2024–25 (Part V). The work order was issued by the Office of the Executive Engineer-III, Urban Engineering Wing, Kohima on August 8, 2025, following approval from the Additional Chief Engineer.
The contract has been awarded to M/s T Lima Ao. The work order amount is at par with the estimated cost based on the NPWD Schedule of Rates 2021, and the project carries a stipulated completion time of 24 months.
As per the order, the contractor will be responsible for correcting any damages during a defect liability period of one year after completion. Payment will be subject to the availability of funds from the State Government, and no mobilization advance or enhancement of rates will be considered.
Speaking to Mokokchung Times, MMC Chairman Imkongchuba said the new building was proposed after the old structure was found to be unsafe.
“The building had become unsafe for tenants as well as customers. We felt it was necessary to replace it,” he said.
The upcoming G+4 structure will accommodate the MMC office on the top floor, while the lower floors will serve commercial purposes.
“We have only suggested to have larger partitions so that interested showrooms can use the space,” the Chairman said, adding that the building will also include a lift.
Shopkeepers from the abandoned Block-B have been shifted to the MMC basement and will be given priority once the new complex is ready.
“The MMC has submitted a lot of proposals including this building, among which the department has prioritized this. Our only objective is to ensure that during our tenure, we have a standing building,” Imkongchuba added.
The new structure, measures approximately 200 ft in length and 15 ft in width.
