Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Thursday expressed concern over the absence of premier educational institutions in the State, saying many students are compelled to leave Nagaland to pursue higher education.

Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, Union Minister for DoNER, Jyotiraditya M. Addressing the 73rd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong, Yadav urged consideration for establishment of national and regional institutions in Nagaland and stressed the importance of investing in youth empowerment, innovation and skill development.

The Governor said education and entrepreneurship would be critical in unlocking opportunities for Nagaland’s youthful population and building a more self-reliant economy.

Highlighting recent initiatives, Yadav pointed to the establishment of Nagaland’s first Drone School and Centre of Excellence under the Nagaland Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Mission as a step towards creating new livelihood opportunities and preparing young people for emerging sectors.

He said strengthening educational infrastructure within the State would reduce the need for students to seek opportunities elsewhere and contribute to long-term social and economic development.

He also said Mokokchung, Kohima and Dimapur are ranked among the top ten performers in the North Eastern Region District SDG Index 2.0.

The Governor cited the achievement while highlighting Nagaland’s progress towards sustainable development and improved governance outcomes.

He said the rankings demonstrate the State’s efforts to advance development across key social and economic indicators.

The Governor’s remarks came during a broader address focused on connectivity, sustainable development, agriculture, infrastructure and regional cooperation under the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and Viksit Nagaland.
