“From the first Lord Rishabhnath to the 24th Lord Mahavira, Jains have been the flag bearers in propagating ideals and practices that emphasize ahimsa, truth, asceticism, and harmonious existence. The impact of Jain Tirthankaras extends beyond religious rituals, significantly influencing Indian culture and philosophy. Their teachings on non-violence inspired other prominent figures such as Mahatma Gandhi. The principles of compassion and non-attachment advocated by these spiritual leaders remain relevant in today’s world, promoting a lifestyle that minimizes harm to living beings and the environment,” said the Governor.

Lauding the Jains of Dimapur, the Governor acknowledged their immense contribution to the socio-economic development of Nagaland over the last 140 years. The establishment of institutions like the Jain School, Girls College, and a charitable hospital has improved the lives of many beneficiaries. The Jains have also organized blood donation camps, medical camps, prosthetic limb donations, free ration and food distributions in orphanages, and provided free education. During the global coronavirus pandemic, the Jains rose to the occasion by offering the first community quarantine center and providing COVID-19 vaccinations to over one lakh beneficiaries.

The Governor further emphasized the teachings of Lord Mahavira, particularly the principle of “Live and Let Live,” as being of paramount importance in the present era, urging nations engaged in conflict to adopt a more peaceful stance. He noted the urgency underscored by the rapidly advancing doomsday clock, which highlights the looming threat of a potential nuclear conflict. He expressed hope that the prayers of all peace-loving citizens, including the esteemed Jain monks, would be answered positively, ensuring the establishment of global peace.

The Governor extended his greetings to everyone on the memorable occasion of Diksha Diwas and expressed gratitude to Pramukh Sagarji Maharaj for his revered presence in Dimapur.
