Mokokchung, October 28 (MTNews): Concerned about the threat of extortion and illegal taxation by various groups, Nagaland and Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has urged the public to “come out in one voice to stop it once and for all.” He stated this during his visit to Zunheboto on October 28, where he met with the District Administration, district heads of departments, civil society organizations, political parties, non-governmental organizations, and the business community at the DC’s Zunheboto conference hall.

 

 

 

During the meeting with civil society organizations, members also presented a memorandum to the Governor, expressing the public’s desire for peace and political resolution as soon as possible, an update from Raj Bhavan Kohima said.

 

As the people of Nagaland yearn for lasting peace, he hoped that something positive would emerge soon in the public’s interest, with peace and assured to take the message of the people to the central government saying, “Nagaland as a state will be next to none,” it added.

 

He further expressed that he had come to interact and feel the pulse of the public and said, “I am a public man all my life and I want to work with the public.”
The members also apprised him on the pathetic road connectivity of Zunheboto district and urged him to take up the matter with the state government in priority.

 

During the interactive meeting with the various government departments, Mukhi urged the Agri and allied departments to encourage farmers, stating that every farmer and their family should get value of their produce and that, in addition to farming, they should be encouraged to engage in other income-generating activities such as cattle rearing, poultry, plantation, and so on.

 

He also urged the concerned departments to ensure that every farmer has access to soil cards, seed, manure, pesticides, and other assistance, encouraging farmers to cultivate crops that are suitable for their soil.

 

He urged the Agri department to collect farmer income statistics and to assist farmers in increasing their yield by assisting them in any way possible. He advised the district to promote and prioritize bamboo products and bamboo plantation.

 

Mukhi also asked the district administration to monitor the center’s flagship programs, which are implemented by various departments and agencies.

 

He also inquired about the status of universal electrification, Jal Jeevan Mission, universal health care, and PMAY-G among other things, and how the departments are working to ensure that the aforementioned schemes are properly implemented for the benefit of the public.

 

Mukhi also stated that healthcare is a critical sector and urged the medical department to organize blood donation camps, which will help the blood bank become more efficient and successful.
Later, he held a security review meeting with the district’s Police, Assam Rifles, and SIB.
