The Government of Nagaland has placed a total of Rs 18,200 lakh for urban development projects under the ‘Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment, 2024–25 – Part-XIII (Urban Planning Reforms).’
In a letter addressed to the Commissioner and Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Under Secretary Ketoulhou Metha conveyed that the fund placement represents the first and final installment sanctioned by the Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure (GoI), via sanction letter No. 44(1)/PF-S/2024-25 (CAPEX)-Part-XIII-SACE-18 dated March 25, 2025.
The notification includes 13 major infrastructure projects, ranging from arterial roadworks to urban infrastructure upgrades and erosion control measures, which are spread across several districts of the state.
Among the approved projects, Rs 900 lakh has been allocated for the construction of a major arterial road from D-Block to NH-29 (Capital Bypass) below Assam Rifles, while Rs 200 lakh has been sanctioned for the arterial road linking New Market ward with Seithogei T-Khel Road. An additional Rs 300 lakh is placed for the road from Model Higher Secondary School to NH-29 via Vineyard School, and another Rs 300 lakh for the stretch from Medical College junction to BSF Camp–NH-29 junction.
Rs 1000 lakh has been approved for inter-district road connectivity from Rental Housing to Chümoukedima-A (Singrijan). The largest single allocation, amounting to Rs 3600 lakh, will go toward constructing an arterial road from NH-29 (Aramile) to the new four-lane bypass via Eralibil and Nihoto, including an RCC bridge over the Chathe River. Another Rs 400 lakh has been earmarked for the road from Darogajan junction to the bypass via Khushiabil.
For pedestrian infrastructure, Rs 300 lakh has been sanctioned for the construction of a new foot overbridge (FOB) at the main junction.
Integrated urban infrastructure works in multiple Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) also received significant funding: Rs 2300 lakh for 12 ULBs, Rs 2000 lakh for 8 ULBs, Rs 1700 lakh each for 10 and 9 ULBs respectively.
Lastly, Rs 3500 lakh has been sanctioned for erosion protection works along the Chathe River to safeguard Referral Hospital and Seithekema in Chümoukedima.
In view of the urgency, the Urban Development Department has been permitted to proceed via short tender processes. Administrative approvals are to be issued immediately, and the department has been instructed to begin the works without delay after fulfilling necessary formalities.
