The Government of Nagaland has taken note of objections raised by the tribes represented under the 5 Tribes CoRRP regarding the nomination of members to the Job Reservation Commission by civil society organisations (CSOs).
Clarifying the matter, the Chief Secretary, Sentiyanger Imchen, IAS, stated that CSOs have been asked to nominate a credible and qualified person from the communities they represent, and not office bearers of the organisations. The Government maintained that this decision was taken to ensure that the opinion of the respective communities—considered the most important stakeholders—is suitably reflected in the assessment and future applicability of the Reservation Policy in the State.
It was further stated that the nomination of stakeholders was sought as such a vital issue should not be decided by the Government alone. The Commission, once constituted, will examine and submit a report on the State’s Reservation Policy in Government employment.
Earlier, the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), the Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) and the Tenyimi Union Nagaland (TUN) had each been requested to nominate one member from their communities to the Commission.
In light of the objections, the Chief Secretary appealed to the concerned groups to reconsider their position on the composition of the Job Reservation Commission so that a comprehensive and inclusive report can be submitted.
