A review meeting of the Nagaland Solar Mission, held in convergence with the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), was convened by Chief Secretary Dr J Alam, IAS at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall, Nagaland Civil Secretariat, on May 28, 2025.

The meeting was attended by Secretary, Power, Asangla Imti, IAS; Secretary for Power, Er Lobosang, and other officials from the Power Department.

The Chief Secretary stated that the purpose of the meeting was to “discuss and update the progress of Nagaland Solar Mission which is in convergence with PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) Rooftop Solar (RTS).”

Dr Alam emphasized the importance of public participation in the mission’s success and “underscored the need to disseminate information and extensively create public awareness campaigns so as to ensure maximum people can avail the scheme.” He also urged the Power Department to make the scheme accessible by improving the online experience.

“He directed the department to make the portal attractive, accessible and also use simple language so that more people can understand and register for the scheme.” Expressing optimism, he added that with state government support, “the Nagaland Solar Mission will be successfully implemented across the State.”

Providing a status update, Team Leader of the Nagaland Solar Mission, Er. Lobosang, informed that “the smart meter will be given free of cost to the customer while installing the rooftop solar.” He further explained, “The smart pre-paid meters which can be configured to Net-Meter shall be provided by the Department under RDSS scheme, only the standard meter rent as per the tariff notification shall be charged on monthly basis.”

It was reiterated during the meeting that the Solar Mission, in alignment with the national rooftop solar initiative, aims to “promote rooftop solar panel installation in residential household across the state.”
