The Nagaland Department of Health & Family Welfare has assured the public that there is no cause for alarm following the detection of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in parts of India.

In a statement issued on Monday, the department emphasized that it is closely monitoring the situation regarding respiratory illnesses in the state. While HMPV is a respiratory virus that can cause symptoms similar to common cold or flu, the department noted that preventive measures for HMPV are similar to those for COVID-19.

The advisory stressed the importance of basic hygiene practices, including washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, avoiding close contact with sick individuals, and covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
