In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 4 of the Census Act, 1948 (Act No. 37 of 1948), the Home Department, Government of Nagaland, has appointed the officers listed in column (2) of the schedule below as Census Officers, with the designation shown against each in column (3).
In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (4) of the said Act, the officers listed in column (2) of the above table have the authority to appoint Census Officers within their respective jurisdictions.
As per the provisions of Section 11 of the Census Act, 1948, any Census Officer or any person lawfully required to assist in the taking of the Census who refuses to perform duties assigned under this Act or any rule made thereunder, or any person who hinders or obstructs another person from performing such duties, shall be punishable with a fine of up to one thousand rupees. In the event of conviction, the person may also be liable to imprisonment for a term that may extend up to three years.
